Achieve your dream of becoming a teacher – even if you missed selection for the Bachelor of Education. This education course prepares you to enter the second year of a teaching degree.

This program has been designed for students who didn’t meet the entry requirements for the Bachelor of Education through the VTAC (or direct) selection process.

We help you build the literacy and numeracy skills needed for a career in education, over a longer 16-week semester.  Successful completion earns you a place in the second year of the Bachelor of Education (P-12), where you’ll learn to teach all age groups – from prep to Year 12. For the degree program, you’ll choose a specialist teaching area in:

  • art, music, digital media or media studies
  • outdoor or physical education (secondary)
  • psychology, student welfare
  • disability studies in education
  • health or food technology
  • English literacy studies
  • environmental science
  • mathematics
  • humanities

Footscray Nicholson

Footscray Nicholson Campus is a few minutes' walk from the Footscray train station. This relaxed and friendly campus has an emphasis on TAFE courses, run through VU Polytechnic. It's easy to find your way around – there is a brand new learning commons with a library and study spaces. We also have childcare facilities and a recreation centre.

PSW Opportunity

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

FOR INDIA

Indian School Certificate (issued by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations)

  • Completed with an overall average of at least 60% average of a minimum of 4 core academic subjects (excluding local language).

All India Senior School (issued by the Central Board of Secondary Education)

  • Completed with an overall average of at least 60% average of a minimum of 4 core academic subjects (excluding local language).

Higher Secondary Certificate/ Intermediate Certificate from State Board

  • Completed with an overall average of at least 65% average of a minimum of 4 core academic subjects (excluding local language). Qualifications are assessed on an individual basis.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

As a guide, for the majority of courses you will need to provide evidence that you have achieved one of the following levels of English language proficiency:

  • IELTS (Academic module): Overall score of 5.5 (no band less than 5.0)
  • TOEFL Internet: Overall score of 55. Section scores no less than:
    > Listening: 9
    > Speaking: 16
    > Reading: 10
    > Writing: 18
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE): Overall score of 42-49 (no section score less than 40)
  • University of Cambridge - Advanced (CAE): Overall score of 162. No individual band less than 154. 
  • VU English - English for Academic Purposes (EAP) (Level 4): achieved.

IELTS, TOEFL, PTE and CAE: These tests must be taken no more than two years prior to commencing your course. 

In some cases, we will accept test results from other methods of examination not listed above.
