B.S.N. in Nursing (R.N. to B.S.N)
The R.N. to B.S.N. program provides flexible, fully online learning opportunities for students who are graduates of community college or diploma schools and are licensed registered nurses.
Classes are offered asynchronously and fully online so students can maintain employment while completing the B.S.N. degree. The program provides a foundation for professional practice and will equip students for further opportunities afforded through graduate study and advance practice.
The program can be completed in one year full-time (3 semesters) or two years part-time (5 semesters.) The curriculum is designed to build up existing nursing knowledge to empower nurses to strengthen practice and professional involvement. Courses encourage the development of new technology, management and relational skills that will enhance future practice within the profession. Class sizes are small and the learning environment is creative and fun. Expert faculty are enthusiastic, passionate about nursing and eager to facilitate success in their students.

Job Opportunity Potential
Strengths that help job opportunity potential
Here are things about JMU that boost the likelihood of good job outcomes:
High “knowledge rate” / outcome tracking
- JMU tracks where their graduates are, which shows transparency and lets them improve based on feedback.
Strong professional / licensure programs
- For fields that require certification or licensure (nursing, teaching, speech pathology, occupational therapy etc.), JMU shows excellent performance
Internship / experiential learning
- JMU offers internships, on-campus interview opportunities, career fairs, etc. Its University Career Center helps students access large job/internship databases and prepares them (resume / interviews) for the job market
Strong regional network and demand
- Being in Virginia, with many government, education, health care, and non-profit institutions in and around Northern Virginia / DC / Maryland, gives graduates good potential, especially in public service, teaching, healthcare, etc. Also, shortages in some fields (like K-12 teachers, nursing) in Virginia mean more opportunity.
Alumni satisfaction, retention, and value
- Students and alumni report high satisfaction; many programs ranked well in “undergraduate teaching” etc.
