Bachelor of Computer Science

Deakin’s Bachelor of Computer Science equips you with the knowledge and practical skills required to design and develop innovative software solutions to complex information and technology problems faced by our community, business, and industry.

Through the study of problem-solving, algorithmic thinking, computational patterns, computing technologies, and software development techniques, the Bachelor of Computer Science equips you with the skills and competencies needed to design and develop data-driven computing solutions to existing and emerging problems in areas such as data analytics, machine learning, robotics, intelligent systems, autonomous systems, telecommunications, and entertainment.

You will have access to our brand-new specialized capstone project and co-working space, which offers you an inspiring space to collaborate with your teammates on your capstone project. As a computer science student, you will undertake a capstone unit that allows you to develop solutions to real-world problems from industry and learn agile project management methods – widely used across the industry.

Our past students have worked on capstone projects such as:

  • medical – a mobile app that tracks pupil responses to light
  • real estate – a mobile app to track your notes about properties you view
  • transport – planning a bus trip with real-time data
  • gaming – children’s computer game to build their resilience
  • architecture – a virtual reality space to assess architecture student projects
  • security – voice-activated passwords
  • political – a secure online voting system

As a computer science student, you will have access to specialized labs and facilities, including dedicated robotics, cybersecurity, and augmented reality (AR)/virtual reality (VR) laboratories. These are well-equipped with modern equipment and educational technologies, supported by enthusiastic and experienced staff. You will have access to current state-of-the-art software and hardware throughout the course, giving you vital hands-on experience that employers demand.

The Melbourne Burwood Campus is Deakin’s largest. A short trip from Melbourne’s central business district, Burwood offers the perfect balance between city lifestyle and suburban comfort. PSW Opportunity

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

COURSE TYPE AND AQF LEVEL

  • Bachelor Degree (AQF Level7) (including integrated honours (AQF Level 8))

MINIMUM ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Senior Secondary Certificate of Education with unadjusted ATAR of at least 50 or equivalent, or
  • Certificate IV in a related discipline, or
  • Diploma in any discipline or 50% completion of Diploma in a related discipline, or
  • Successful completion of at least two relevant Deakin University units.

If you're currently studying Year 12, or completed Year 12 in the last two years, you will need to meet all the following criteria to be considered for admission to this degree:

Year 12 prerequisite subjects

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English EAL (English as an Additional Language) or at least 25 in English other than EAL
ATAR

This course uses the ATAR as part of its selection consideration.

To meet the English language proficiency requirements of this course, you will need to demonstrate at least one of the following:

Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) English Units 3 and 4: Study score greater than 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or greater than 25 in any other English
IELTS overall score of 6.5 (with no band score less than 6) or equivalent
