Biomedical engineering works at the intersection of engineering and biology, to understand and solve problems in medicine and human disease. Biomedical engineers blend biomedical science with engineering techniques to create innovative healthcare solutions.

Job Opportunity Potential

Biomedical engineers work in a range of industries, including biotechnology, government, health services, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and start-ups. As a biomedical engineer, you could design a medical device, solve clinical problems, develop next generation algorithms for imaging the body, or engineer tissues for wound healing.

You’ll also gain a transferable skillset that will be highly valued outside of the health sector, including management consulting, finance, business analysis, project management.

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for entry into this course, you must:

  • Have completed a bachelor degree (AQF7) in any discipline with a weighted average mark (WAM) of 65%, or equivalent.
    And
  • Have completed below prerequisite subject(s):
    • 25 points of appropriate tertiary-level mathematics subjects, equivalent to MAST10006 Calculus 2 and MAST10007 Linear Algebra.
      And
    • 25 points of appropriate tertiary-level Biology.
      Or
    • 25 points of appropriate tertiary-level Chemistry.
      Or
    • 12.5 points of second year Engineering Mathematics, equivalent to MAST20029 Engineering Mathematics.
