Master of Arts in Counseling and Psychology (Clinical Mental Health Counseling)
The Counseling and Psychology master's degree with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling prepares skilled professionals to provide mental health services to individuals and groups in public and private settings. Graduates of this program often obtain LPC licensure (Licensed Professional Counselor) with a Mental Health Service Provider endorsement, allowing graduates to work with cases of a more diagnostic and clinical nature. Licensure requires supervised clinical experience beyond the hours required for a degree.
Special emphasis is placed on personal and professional development to become effective mental health service providers for the larger community and region. The program is committed to serving the diverse population of the region and strives to recruit students and faculty that are representative of our regional diversity. This program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Students completing the 60-hour master’s program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling are eligible to earn an Ed.S. in School Counseling for an additional 18 credit hours of course work leading to School Counselor licensure with the Tennessee Department of Education.
