The Interdisciplinary Studies Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education from University of Houston-Clear Lake is primarily for students who have taken courses in an early childhood discipline from an accredited institution and would like to pursue a bachelor's degree. This degree is focused on young children up to 5 years of age with several courses that also cover the early school years through age 8. This is an affordable option to complete your bachelor's degree in a supportive environment with other students who currently work with small children and families and wish to work in early childhood programs such as Head Start, Early Head Start, or other early care and education programs and agencies where a Texas EC-6 Teacher Certification is not required.

Faculty members can request a classroom presentation from one of our career counselors. Topics include writing effective cover letters and resumes, interviewing skills, and career assessments such as StrengthFinder test, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory.

Career Services can also coordinate with alumni and industry professionals in order to facilitate a classroom visit. These visits can range from employer-led lectures to discussions on current industry trends and professional development tips.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

If you were born or educated in a country where English is not the native language, you must demonstrate English proficiency prior to admission. You can meet this requirement by taking the paper or internet TOEFL exam, Intensive English Language Test (IELTS) exam, Pearson Test of English (PTE) or by successfully completing the ELS Intensive English Language program.

Your minimum scores must be:

550 on the paper-based TOEFL exam;
79 on the TOEFL (iBT) exam;
6.0 on the IELTS exam, 53 on the PTE exam; or,
You can successfully complete level 112 in the ELS Intensive English Language program.

SAT/ACT Scores
Your official SAT or ACT scores should be sent to the Office of International Admissions & Programs directly from the testing agency. UHCL’s SAT code is 6916. UHCL’s ACT code is 4171.
