Education and living costs are very affordable in Malta compared to other parts of Europe.

Education in Malta is increasingly becoming widely recognized internationally, with an expanding number of European partnerships and exchange programs.

To apply as an international student, your English proficiency level generally needs to be shown by:

• IELTS: 6.0
• TOEFL: 70 to 80 iBT
• Alternatives may include Duolingo or a university test that could be done before admission.

Some institutions may not require students to test in English based on where they were previously educated and the language of education.

Malta typically adheres to the European academic calendar, which has two intakes:

• October (Primary intake)
• February/March (Spring intake for selected programs)

International students have access to scholarships:

• Direct to University merit-based scholarship
• Erasmus+ exchange scholarship
• Government or EU trade-funded mobility scholarships

Non-EU/EEA students must apply for a student visa if the course lasts over 90 days. The visa requirements include:

• An admission confirmation letter from a recognized programme at a Maltese institution
• Proof of funds and accommodation
• Valid health insurance
• Passport and visa application

International students then must apply for a residence permit that is valid for the duration of their study while living in Malta.
