What is the cost of studying in Malta?

For undergraduation in Arts or Business programs, the tuition fee for 8 credits is 1,080 Euros approximately. At the same time, for undergraduate Science programs the tuition fee is approximately 1,360 Euros. Full-time undergraduate courses are free of charge to citizens of Malta and the European Union. Also, Maltese students who are enrolled in higher education courses in Malta are entitled to a stipend.

Apart from the tuition fees, students will have to incur other living costs including accommodation, clothing, food, medical and other miscellaneous costs. The main accommodation options for international students are staying on-campus or off-campus. The residence for students are cheaper, charging around 250 Euros monthly. The other alternative is to stay at rented apartments which costs at least 700 Euros.

Local students on an average spend 200-150 Euros monthly and if you plan to travel and eat out a lot, this cost will vary accordingly.

Visa to study in Malta

If you are planning to study in Malta for over 90 days, which is obvious if you wish to pursue full-time courses, you will need to apply for a visa under study or training category. It is compulsory for all non-visa nationals to apply for a national visa before the expiry of their initial 90-day permission to stay in Malta. Students can apply for a visa extension after 21 days from the date of arrival in Malta.

Malta introduced new changes in the student visa process for Non-EU students which have simplified the visa process.

The new changes also made it easier for students to work during their studies. As per PIE News, non-EU students enrolled in Universities and colleges and staying beyond 90 days are allowed to work for 20 hours a week. Such students can also extend their stay in Malta for six months post-graduation to look for work opportunities.

Note: International students must attend all lessons and make satisfactory progress in the study programs they are enrolled in to remain eligible for holding the visa.
