What is the cost of studying in Spain?

As we already discussed, Spain has a total of 76 Universities, out of which 24 are private, and 7 of these are associated with the Catholic Church. The public universities are funded by the state and the fees are set by the government. As per a study, compared to other European study destinations and the US, Spain is known to offer high-value education in lower tuition fees.

Although the fees for each study program vary accordingly, on an average a Bachelor's degree from a public university costs between 680 and 1,280 Euros per school year. At the same time, pursuing a Bachelor's degree from a private university can cost somewhere between 5,500 and 18,000 Euros per school year.

When it comes to pursuing a Master's or Ph.D, university fees at public institutions vary between 22 and 36 Euros per credit.

Majority of colleges and universities in Spain have application fees for admissions into their programs and although these fees vary, they usually remain less than US$50.

Apart from the tuition fee, a large portion of the expenditure made by students in Spain is in accommodation, clothing, books and related supplies and food and travel.

In terms of accommodation, students can choose student residences (similar to hostels), rent an apartment or stay at homestays. While the cheapest option is student residences, renting an apartment is the second-best alternative. But renting an apartment at costlier cities can actually lead to more expenses as rent. So, while usually renting an apartment can cost a student between 450 and 700 EUR/month, renting an apartment in cities like Madrid or Barcelona can cost you almost double.

The most popular among the scholarships is the Erasmus Mundus Scholarships for international students.
