Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care
This qualification is designed to meet the needs of educators within the early childhood education and care sector. It reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. They are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations. They use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations.
They may have responsibility for the supervision of volunteers or other educators.
To achieve this qualification, 280 hours of work-placement in a regulated children’s education and care services must be completed.

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.
- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Sydney Metro College has the following entry requirements:
- Students must be over 18 years of age.
- Students must have completed an overseas equivalent of Year 12 or higher qualification.
Students must have either an IELTS score of 5.5 total or above with no band lower than 5.0 or equivalent.
