BS in Education (Teaching Students with Disabilities 7-12 Generalist)

Majoring in Teaching Students with Disabilities 7-12 Generalist prepares you to work with families and teach students with disabilities in Grades 7-12 in New York State schools. The program equips you with the knowledge, understanding, and skills in the liberal arts and sciences, including but not limited to: artistic expression; communication; information retrieval; concepts in history and social sciences; humanities; a world language other than English; scientific and mathematical processes; and written analysis and expression.
Students who complete the major in Teaching Students with Disabilities 7-12 Generalist (B.S.) will:
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of the subject matter they will teach
- Demonstrate pedagogical content knowledge and the ability to use this knowledge to design effective lessons
- Demonstrate teaching skills that promote student learning
- Teach caringly, effectively, and professionally

PSW Opportunity
Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).
Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.
Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).
STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Official transcripts (mark sheets) of all secondary and post secondary academic work along with an explanation of the grading system (in English). NOTE: All years transcripts must be submitted.
Tests of English language proficiency, if English is not your first language. Utica University requires one of the following:
- Pearson Test of English (PTE), minimum score of 53; or
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 written, 213 computer-based, 79-80 internet-based;
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0; or
- Duolingo English Test (DET) score of 100
