Agricultural Education, BS
The Southwest Minnesota State University School of Agriculture is proud to have established Agricultural Education (Ag Ed) as our newest major on campus. This program addresses the critical need for qualified Ag Ed teachers. The SMSU Ag Ed program is multidisciplinary. It is founded on a strong liberal education program that emphasizes critical thinking, effective communication and a well-rounded knowledge base. Through active learning, the Ag Ed program directly prepares students to become Agricultural Education teachers and FFA Advisors. The core of the Ag Ed major is a balanced and well-designed program of study that includes core courses in science, agriculture, educational methodology and leadership development.

PSW Opportunity
Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).
Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.
Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).
STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Secondary Education: Completion of high school (roughly 12 years) with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Foreign transcripts require evaluation by services like WES, ECE, or TEC.
English Proficiency (IELTS minimum):
SMSU requires an overall IELTS score of 5.5 or higher for undergraduate admissions.
