BS/MS in Communications and Media design
The joint BS/MS program in communications + media design and information design + technology is an exciting opportunity for high-achieving students to complete both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in a shorter amount of time with a reduced total number of required credits. Ultimately, the students in our accelerated program will save both time and money, setting them up for post-graduation success.
Students accepted into the BS/MS program follow the same path to receiving their bachelor’s degree as their BS-only peers – they follow the same undergraduate degree requirements and receive their degree once these requirements are completed. Unlike traditional students in the BS program, however, accelerated BS/MS students enjoy many benefits that are exclusive to them:
Significant Cost Savings: As an undergraduate student, BS/MS students have the opportunity to take up to four graduate courses at the undergraduate tuition rate. These grad courses count toward BOTH the BS and MS degree requirements – this allows some students to complete more than a semester of graduate coursework before they are even an official graduate student.
Higher Earning Potential: A master's degree is a good investment. Data from the last decade shows employees with a master’s degree earn an average of around $12K/year more over their career compared to those with only a BS.
Standout in Your Job + Internship Search: When a BS/MS student applies to jobs and internships, their resume stands out from other resumes being reviewed since it includes a number of advanced courses.
More Elective Options and Course Scheduling Flexibility: As a BS/MS student working towards your bachelor's degree, you can take up to four graduate information design and technology courses to meet your advanced undergraduate elective course requirements (required for your bachelor's degree.) This can make a big difference when it comes to finding courses that meet your interests or scheduling requirements
