Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

FOR INDIA

The application procedure varies for undergraduate and postgraduate students, so we publish separate information for each. You'll also need to be able to provide evidence of a specified level of ability in the English language.

Entry to graduate diploma or taught masters programmes at Queen's University Belfast usually requires either a UK upper second-class (2:1) or a lower second-class (2:2) undergraduate degree. For most courses, your major subject or content of your Bachelor degree may also be considered. Please check our  for exact entry requirements.

The comparable Indian qualifications are as follows:

UK Upper Second-Class Honours (2:1)

Successful completion of Bachelor degree with:

  • First Division Pass and a minimum final average of 58 - 60% (in the traditional system), or CGPA 5.8 - 7.5 on the 10 point scale; depending on the institution attended and the grading system used

UK Lower Second-Class Honours (2:2)

Successful completion of Bachelor degree with:

  • Second Division Pass and a minimum final average of 53 - 55% (in the traditional system), or CGPA 5.3 - 6.5 on the 10 point scale; depending on the institution attended and the grading system used

Please note that other important factors considered in the assessment of applications are performance in relevant modules at undergraduate level, and the number of attempts taken to achieve the final grade.

Where a CGPA system is used, the scoring system used by each institution will be taken into account and applications considered on an individual basis.

We take into account that at some of India's most prestigious higher education institutions it is rare to be awarded a First Class degree. For this reason, it may be possible at the discretion of the Selector to consider candidates from top institutions who have achieved a very good Second Class degree with a final average of 58% or above (where a UK 2:1 is required), or 53% (where a UK 2:2 is required).

English Language Requirements

For admission to most postgraduate degree programmes, the University will normally accept 70% in English Language in Standard XII in lieu of an IELTS Academic test, if awarded by one of the following Indian examination boards, and taken no more than seven years prior to the start of the degree programme.  An official Digilocker verification must be provided::

  • All India Senior School Certificate Examination (Delhi Senior School Certificate Examination) awarded by the Central Board of Secondary Education CBSE
  • Indian School Certificate (Year 12) awarded by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE).
  • Higher Secondary Certificate (Year 12) awarded by the following State Boards: Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
