Master of Catchment Science
The Master of Catchment Science has been developed to meet emerging knowledge and skill needs within the water management sector. With this degree, you'll develop an understanding of catchment chemical, microbiological, ecological, hydrological and morphological processes, determinants, and interrelationships across a range of scales. You'll learn to quantitatively and critically analyze, model, forecast, and evaluate the consequences of changes in these processes using a range of leading data management, analysis, modeling and visualization techniques, and software packages.
This includes the ability to undertake a full environmental and project-based cost-benefit analysis for catchment management options, as well as to scientifically diagnose catchment management issues and design the whole of the catchment, the whole of the water cycle management solutions. Knowledge and skills in these areas are in demand in water utilities as well as local, state and federal government, and consultancies.
This Masters's degree is hosted by the International WaterCentre and developed and delivered in collaboration with Griffith's Australian Rivers Institute (ARI), the School of Engineering and Built Environment, and the School of Environment and Sciences. Available on-campus with some courses offered online, this degree draws on a range of expert academic lecturers, industry guest speakers, practical workshops, and field trips, as well as ARI's research expertise in areas of catchment processes and hydrology. It also includes a significant work-based research project so you can apply your learning and gain practical outcomes while you study, combined with individual mentoring meetings to help you succeed academically and professionally.

- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for admission to the Master of Catchment Science, an applicant must have:
- hold a related Bachelor degree (or higher) from a recognized University (or another tertiary institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum GPA of 4.0 (using a 7.0 scale) and at least one year of professional experience
OR - hold a Griffith Graduate Certificate in Catchment Hydrology
OR - hold a Griffith Graduate Certificate in Catchment Processes.
Students admitted to this degree program with a Graduate Certificate in Catchment Hydrology or Graduate Certificate in Catchment Processes will be eligible for 40 credit points of advanced standing towards the Masters.
