Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care
When you complete the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care with Chisholm, you will have achieved a nationally recognised qualification highly regarded by employers in this sector. You will be able to work at a senior level in a variety of children's services, including designing and developing curriculum and supervision of staff.
To undertake this course, you need to hold either the CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or the CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care qualification. If you have not successfully completed either of these courses, please enrol first into the CHC30121 qualification on our website. The Certificate III is now a prerequisite for the Diploma qualification and allows you to complete two qualifications in 2 years.
After successful completion of our CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, Chisholm students can apply to a number of different Universities where they may receive direct credit into a Bachelor of Education Primary &/or Early Childhood degrees.
Campus Information
Frankston
Frankston campus offers a wide range of courses and facilities to support the training needs of students. Buildings A and B form the $85m Frankston Learning and Innovation Precinct, which was officially opened in late 2019. Building B is dedicated to technical trades and has the latest workshop design and fit-out for plumbing, building and carpentry, electrical, electrotechnology and engineering.
Berwick
With an onsite beauty spa, a children’s services training centre and a computer, engineering and electronic centre, Berwick caters to many different streams of education.
Dandenong
The Dandenong campus is one of the largest campuses in South East Melbourne, with facilities for international and VCE students, a café, patisserie, hair and beauty salon, campus store, hi-tech automotive centre, a large library and computer lab, Dandenong campus is well equipped to provide you with what you need to succeed in your studies. Located on Stud Rd, with bus routes, train stops and freeways all nearby, as well as lots of on-site parking, Dandenong is also very accessible for the whole South East Melbourne area.

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.
- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
• CHC30113 or CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
• Minimum age requirement: 17 years and 3 months
• Of school leaving age or have a transition from school form.
• Have parental agreement for students under 18 years of age.
Physical:
• stand, walk or move across spaces for prolonged periods (more than 30 minutes) to support the needs of children.
• lift, hold or assist infants, toddlers and children of varying size and capability (i.e. bottle feeding, nappy change, support children in climbing)
• squatting &/or getting down on the floor (at the child’s level) to support and engage.
• provide basic cleaning duties including but not limited to, wiping down surfaces, mopping, using cleaning products.
• be physically capable of engaging with children, families, and colleagues for a maximum 7.5 hours per day, up to 5 days per week.
• be physically capable of sustaining CPR for at least two (2) minutes on the floor
Interpersonal:
• strong abilities in reading, writing and oral English language communication.
• an ability to constructively give and receive critical feedback.
• an ability to follow and provide verbal and written instructions.
• an ability to interpret private information and maintain confidentiality.
• emotional flexibility and stability to cater to the varying needs of children and families.
• ability to handle general stressors (meeting deadlines, task management, managing expectation, etc.)
Cognitive:
• basic computer literacy, including but not limited to the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), email functions, internet browsing and other general computer functions.
• ability to read, interpret and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Strong problem solving skills and the ability to apply agile solutions
Industry:
• Students must be able to complete 280 hours of work placement, as this is a requirement of the course.
• Students must be able to attain a current Working with Children check as it will be required for professional workplace experience
Dress Code on work placement:
• Shoes – closed-in-toe shoes.
• Uniform – trousers, sun hat.
• Hair- clean and tied back if long.
• Nails – clean short nails preferred.
• Personal hygiene – clean and professional presentation.
Students are required to bring a laptop to class.
