Job Opportunity Potential

The diploma is run to the requirements of The Skills Organisation and Connexis (Industry Training Organisation (ITO) for New Zealand’s infrastructure industries). Wintec also has industry connections with the Institute of Professional Engineers of New Zealand (IPENZ) that link us to organisations such as WEL Networks and Gallagher Group.

Graduates of the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering can gain employment as engineering technicians in workplaces with a technical/engineering basis relevant to their specialist engineering strand (mechanical, civil, electrical, or electronics). 

Electrical engineering roles include working in power distribution, industrial automation, and building services infrastructure.

PSW Opportunity

  • During study, all students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations.
  • After completing Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Qualification, a student will get a three years open post-study work visa.
  • After completing Level 8 Post Graduate courses of 1 year, students get 1 year PSW.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Level 6 Admission Requirement:

Completed Year 12 or equivalent.

Based on study completed after school (tertiary study)

  • Completed the New Zealand Diploma (Level 5);
  • Or a recognised equivalent. 

Level 7 Admission Requirement:

Candidates are required to:
i) have successfully completed a bachelor degree from a New Zealand Institution or an approved and accredited overseas institution; or
ii) Successfully completed a Level 6 or 7 Diploma and relevant work and/or life experience (equivalent to a bachelor degree); or
iii) Evidence of equivalent practical, professional or educational experience as approved by the Centre Director or authorised nominee.

Concurrent programmes:
IELTS 5.5 with a minimum of 5.0 in all bands, or equivalent

Programmes level 4 and below:
IELTS 5.5  with a minimum of 5.0 in all bands, or equivalent

Programmes levels 5 to 7:
IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all bands, or equivalent

Programmes level 8 and above:
IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in all bands, or equivalent

Additional requirements:
2 year validity period for all assessments. External bodies may influence some programme specific IELTS levels. You must provide evidence of your proficiency in the English language.
