Bachelor of Contemporary Art
This degree is for those who want to engage in fields of art including painting, photography, screen-based media, installation, street art, sculpture, curation or illustration. Students will study in a community where individual vision and personality are valued as a relevant contribution to our society.
Students will develop and gain a deep understanding of creativity in art and use this to respond to situations that demand combinations of ideas, technologies and techniques that result in new forms of knowledge and making. Such knowledge is powerful in the careers that will sustain and transform our world.
With 24-hour access to studios and workshops, students will have the opportunity to develop their own personal art practice, as well as undertake real-world projects both with students from other disciplines, and with industry.

Graduates will be qualified to work in a range of communication, media, and creative related roles. They will have developed transferable skills and professional attributes that will position them for many other jobs. Graduates will have the skills to work collaboratively and creatively within the increasingly complex and dynamic creative industries.
This programme also pathways into postgraduate programmes at Wintec such as the Bachelor of Media Arts with Honours then Master of Arts.

Level 7 (Bachelor’s degree)
- Duration: Equal to length of study (typically up to 3 years)
- Requirement: minimum 30 weeks full time study in NZ
Level 7 (Graduate Diploma)
Eligible for PSWV
Conditions:
- Must also hold a Bachelor’s degree (NZ or overseas)
- Duration: Up to length of study (typically 1 year)
Level 8 (Postgraduate Diploma)
- Duration: Equal to length of study, OR
- Up to 3 years in some cases (if part of higher qualification pathway)
Level 9 and 10 (Master’s degree and Doctoral degree)
- Duration: 3 years
- Condition: Must study at least 30 weeks in New Zealand
- Most eligible international students can work up to 25 hours per week during study and full-time during scheduled breaks, only if their student visa includes work rights.
- Foundation, pathway and short courses have different rules.
- Not allowed for part time students.
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Level 6 Admission Requirement:
Completed Year 12 or equivalent.
Based on study completed after school (tertiary study)
- Completed the New Zealand Diploma (Level 5);
- Or a recognised equivalent.
Level 7 Admission Requirement:
Candidates are required to:
i) have successfully completed a bachelor degree from a New Zealand Institution or an approved and accredited overseas institution; or
ii) Successfully completed a Level 6 or 7 Diploma and relevant work and/or life experience (equivalent to a bachelor degree); or
iii) Evidence of equivalent practical, professional or educational experience as approved by the Centre Director or authorised nominee.
Concurrent programmes:
IELTS 5.5 with a minimum of 5.0 in all bands, or equivalent
Programmes level 4 and below:
IELTS 5.5 with a minimum of 5.0 in all bands, or equivalent
Programmes levels 5 to 7:
IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all bands, or equivalent
Programmes level 8 and above:
IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in all bands, or equivalent
Additional requirements:
2 year validity period for all assessments. External bodies may influence some programme specific IELTS levels. You must provide evidence of your proficiency in the English language.
