The MA Photography programme offers an in-depth, creative and socially engaged postgraduate level education in the practices of contemporary photography. We live in a visual age and photography (as well as images and visual artefacts) play a huge role in how we see and understand a range of issues, past, present and future! Through a mix of practical and research-based modules the MA will help you prepare for a professional or academic career in photography and related visual fields. From darkroom practice and professional development through to a final degree show, we will nurture your visual development and critical thinking. All supported by expert staff and an enriching programme of visiting speakers.

Preston

There are a variety of different ways you can access our Preston city campus, whether by rail, road or air. Preston is well served by the M6 motorway both north and south and excellent cross country rail links. There are also two major international airports in Manchester and Liverpool John Lennon.

PSW Opportunity

2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

55% in bachelor degree

70% in Year 12 English*
Or
70% average grade in Year 11 and Year 12 English provided Year 12 is not below 65%
Or
Standard English language entry requirements – IELTS 6.5 or equivalent

GCSE or O-Level English Grade C - Grade C

A Level English Language - Grade C

TOEFL iBT including Special At Home Edition - 88 (with minimum grades of 21 in each component)

UCLan Test of English Language Level (TELL) - Merit (75%) with no component below pass (65%)

Pearson Test of EnglishAcademic - 61 with minimum of 55 in each component

Entry by application form and interview. 2:2 Hons degree in photography or related Hons degree from UK or equivalent (non-UK) qualification and a portfolio are required for entry. Consideration given to alternative BA (equivalent) qualifications to applicants with creative industries' work experience. Non-standard qualifications, relevant work or life experience will be equally considered. We consider applications for prior learning (cert or experiential) which fulfils some of the learning outcomes of a course for admission with credit to an appropriate point on that course. Students can apply either before or after they commence the course. Applicants must have a min level of proficiency equal to IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
