Civil Engineering MEng
This integrated qualification gives you the opportunity to explore civil engineering to master’s level. You will develop strong leadership skills and detailed scientific knowledge to prepare you for a career as a highly skilled civil engineer.
You will learn with staff active in industry, consultancy and research, with opportunities to get involved in lecturer’s research as part of your studies. Our research interests include earthquake engineering dynamics and design, advanced geotechnics and rock mechanics, bridge engineering and advanced hydraulics.
Fieldwork, site visits, and projects run with our industry partners give you hands-on experience. You’ll work with students in interdisciplinary project teams on industry-based scenarios, ranging from design briefs to real-world case studies.
Visiting industry experts will share their experience with you and give you a feel for what the working world is like. The option of a salaried placement year and the opportunity to learn Building Information Modelling (BIM) will give you professional advantage. There is also the opportunity to study abroad in your third year.

Moulsecoomb campus
Two miles north of Brighton city centre and the seafront, Moulsecoomb is the largest of our four campuses with more than 8,000 students. Moulsecoomb Place is home to more than 160 students, while others live in nearby Varley Park. There are a number of areas of Brighton that are popular with students, just a short walk, cycle or bus ride away. These include Moulsecoomb, Bevendean, Hollingbury, Elm Grove, Hanover and other suburbs that stretch up the hills on either side of the Lewes Road.

PSW Opportunity
- 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
- 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
A-levels or BTEC
Entry requirements are in the range of A-level AAB–BBB (136–120 UCAS Tariff points), or BTEC Extended Diploma DDD–DDM.
A-level maths, or its equivalent, is normally a requirement for entry. BTEC should include at least an M in further maths.
International Baccalaureate
27 points, with three subjects at Higher level. Higher level subjects to include maths at grade 5.
Access to HE Diploma
Pass with 60 credits overall. Engineering or science. At least 45 credits at level 3, with 24 credits at merit or above with overall distinction profile. Must achieve level 3 maths with distinction.
Foundation degree/HND
International foundation may be considered. HND may be considered for year 2 entry.
English language requirements
IELTS 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in each element. Find out more about the other English qualifications that we accept.
Studied before or got relevant experience?
A qualification, HE credits or relevant experience may count towards your course at Brighton, and could mean that you do not have to take some elements of the course or can start in year 2 or 3.
