There are two options for the M.S.E. Degree in Special Education. The first is for professional educators interested in pursuing advanced studies in various areas of special education to gain additional information to work with individuals with special needs. These courses of study provide you with an enhanced understanding of persons with exceptional needs in schools and in larger society.

The second option is for the preparation of those who will serve children with Autism Spectrum Disorders in widely diverse settings, including public and private schools, hospitals and clinics, or as consultants to schools, families and other educational agencies. This option is designed to be completed 100% online.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

To apply for admission to a master’s degree program at UCM you must have a bachelor’s degree. To apply to an Education Specialist’s degree program you must have a master’s degree. Prerequisite degrees must be from institutions accredited by agencies recognized by the University of Central Missouri. If you have graduate coursework you must have a graduate GPA of 3.0 or higher to be admitted to a graduate program.

Department Admission Requirements

Some graduate programs at UCM require standardized tests, such as the GRE or GMAT, and some require a minimum GPA, letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose and/or other materials. To learn more about requirements for your specific program, please review the Graduate Catalog. For specific program questions, please contact the designated graduate coordinator for your area of study.

Demonstration of English Proficiency

Proficiency may be demonstrated by one of the following:

a. TOEFL exam score of 79 IBT*
b. IELTS exam score of 6.0*

If you do not meet this requirement, you may participate in our Intensive English Program to Master's track.

*UCM does not currently accept the at-home version of the IELTS or TOEFL exam.
