About the Telecommunications and networking specialisation

Become an expert in designing and developing new telecom systems and software.

Master network architecture, serial communication standards and routing techniques in computer communication networks. Learn advanced technologies in digital communications and design and simulate and evaluate wireless systems. Scrutinise cybersecurity attacks on system and network services and assess different security mechanisms. Apply your skills and knowledge in real-world situations through work placements with our industry partners. Graduate ready to pursue a career in a range of different sectors including scientific and technical services, defence, and public administration and safety.

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

240 credit point pathway

  • Successful completion of a non-accredited 4-year bachelor's degree in electronic/electrical engineering or related discipline. OR
  • Successful completion of a Sydney Accord-accredited 3-year Bachelor of Technology in electronic/electrical engineering or related discipline. OR
  • Applicants with non-cognate engineering qualifications who also have practical industry experience in civil engineering or related field will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Department of Engineering. AND
  • Applicants may be required to attend an interview.
  • Eligibility to be assessed on a case-by-case basis by the Department of Engineering.

120 credit point pathway

  • Successful completion of an Australian or a Washington Accord-accredited 4-year Bachelor or Bachelor (Honours) degree in electronic/electrical engineering. OR
  • Applicants with non-cognate Washington accord engineering qualifications who also have practical industry experience in civil engineering or related field will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Department of Engineering. AND
  • Applicants may be required to attend an interview.
  • Eligibility to be assessed on a case-by-case basis by the Department of Engineering.
